Politics As Usual: Scot Brown Winning Tuesday's special election in Massachusetts for U.S. Senate.

Hmmmmm Should We Be Worried?

Boston, Massachusetts (CNN) -- In a stunning upset that reshaped the U.S. political landscape, Republican Scott Brown won Tuesday's special election in Massachusetts for the U.S. Senate seat formerly held by liberal Democrat Ted Kennedy.
With 99 percent of the results counted, Brown had 52 percent of the vote to 47 percent for Massachusetts Attorney General Martha Coakley, the Democratic candidate, according to the the National Election Pool, a consortium of media organizations including CNN. Independent candidate Joseph Kennedy, a libertarian who is not related to the Kennedy political family of Massachusetts, had 1 percent.
Brown's victory made real the once unthinkable prospect of a Republican filling the seat held by Kennedy, known as the liberal lion, for almost 47 years until his death due to brain cancer last August. Before Kennedy won the seat for the first time in 1962, his older brother John held it for nearly eight years until his election as U.S. president in 1960.
"This really does change everything, you know that?" said Mitt Romney, the former GOP governor of Massachusetts who introduced Brown at his victory rally.
Voters across Massachusetts braved winter cold and snow for an election with high stakes -- the domestic agenda of President Obama, including his top domestic priority, health care reform.
Brown's victory strips Democrats of their 60-seat Senate super-majority, needed to overcome GOP filibusters against future Senate action on a broad range of White House priorities. Senate Democrats needed all 60 votes in their caucus to pass the health care bill, and the loss of one seat now imperils generating that support again for a compromise measure worked out with the House.
"Forty one, forty one," chanted the crowd at Brown's rally, referring to his new status as the Senate's 41st Republican. Brown, a state senator until now, heralded his victory as the start of more election surprises in 2010.
No Republican had won a U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts since 1972, and Democrats control the governorship, both houses of the state legislature, and the state's entire congressional delegation.

Health Care Reform
"When there's trouble in Massachusetts, rest assured there's trouble everywhere, and they know it," Brown said of the Democratic Party.
Republican leaders sounded a similar theme, saying Americans were fed up with what they called Democratic arrogance in Washington.
"Americans are investing their hopes in good Republican candidates to reverse a year-long Democrat trend of ignoring the American people on the issues of health care, spending and the growth of government," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said in a statement.
The seat vacated by Kennedy's death is currently held by his former aide and longtime friend Paul Kirk, who was appointed on an interim basis.
Obama called Brown and Coakley on Tuesday night, and a White House statement said the president "told Sen. Brown that he looks forward to working with him on the urgent economic challenges facing Massachusetts families and struggling families across our nation."
Massachusetts Secretary of State Bill Galvin said last week that certifying Tuesday's election results could take more than two weeks -- potentially enough time to allow congressional Democrats to pass a final health care bill before Brown is seated.
But multiple Democratic sources said that is unlikely. Even if House and Senate Democrats could reach a deal to meld their bills and pass them in the next couple of weeks, there would be a huge outcry from not only Republicans, but also an increasingly distrustful public if they appeared to be rushing it through.
Galvin had predicted as many 2.2 million of the state's 4.5 million registered voters would vote -- at least double the turnout from December's primary. In one sign of high interest, more than 100,000 absentee ballots were requested ahead of the election, according to Brian McNiff, Galvin's spokesman.
Coakley was initially expected to easily win the race to replace Kennedy, who made health care reform the centerpiece of his Senate career.
Until recently, Brown was underfunded and unknown statewide. Waging a nationally backed campaign that included driving his pickup around the state, Brown surged in the weeks preceding Tuesday's vote and led in all the final polls.
In a sign of the high stakes involved, the Coakley campaign held an afternoon news conference Tuesday to complain that voters in three places received ballots already marked for Brown.
McNiff confirmed that the secretary of state's offices received two reports of voters saying they received pre-marked ballots. The suspect ballots were invalidated and the voters received new ballots, McNiff said.
Kevin Conroy, the Coakley campaign manager, said the "disturbing incidents" raised questions about the integrity of the election. In response, the Brown campaign issued a statement criticizing Coakley's team.
"Reports that the Coakley campaign is making reckless accusations regarding the integrity of today's election is a reminder that they are a desperate campaign," Daniel B. Winslow, the counsel for the Brown campaign, said in the statement.
Obama had been "surprised and frustrated" by the race, White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said Tuesday.
Obama and former President Bill Clinton hit the campaign trail in the final week in an attempt to save Coakley's campaign, which observers say was hampered by complacency and missteps.
Obama crushed Sen. John McCain in Massachusetts in 2008, beating the GOP presidential nominee by 26 points.
"If you were fired up in the last election, I need you more fired up in this election," Obama urged a crowd at a Coakley campaign rally on Sunday.
Vicki Kennedy, the late senator's widow, called on state Democrats to turn out to save her husband's legacy.
"We need your help. We need your support. We need you to get out there and vote on Tuesday," Kennedy said. "We need you to bring your neighbors. We need you to bring your friends."
Brown, who has trumpeted his 30 years of service in the National Guard, hewed to traditional GOP themes in his victory speech. He promised to back tax cuts and be tough on terrorists, and to oppose Obama's health care overhaul effort.
"People do not want a trillion dollar health-care plan that is being forced on the American people," Brown said.
Brown said his victory defied "the odds and experts" who predicted that the Senate seat held by Democrats for more than 50 years would not change hands.
Instead, independent voters who outnumber registered Democrats and Republicans combined in Massachusetts strongly supported Brown.
"Tonight, the independent majority has delivered a great victory," Brown said, later adding: "What happened here in Massachusetts can happen all over America."
Facing the possibility of Coakley's defeat, Democrats were trying to figure out whether they could pass a health care overhaul without that crucial 60th Senate vote. But top White House aides publicly insisted they were not engaging in any talk of contingency plans because they thought Coakley would win.
Two Democratic sources in close contact with the White House told CNN on Monday that they'd urged the administration, in the event of a Brown victory, to push House Democrats to pass the Senate's health care bill as currently written. Doing so would prevent the plan from having to be taken up by the Senate again.
"I think the Senate bill clearly is better than nothing," House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Maryland, said Tuesday.
A third option would be for Democrats to revisit the idea of trying to push health care through the Senate with only 51 votes -- a simple majority.
But to do that Democrats would have to use a process known as reconciliation, which presents technical and procedural issues that would delay the process for a long time. A number of Democrats are eager to put the health care debate behind them and move on to economic issues such as job creation as soon as possible this election year.
Senate Democrats could also try again to get moderate GOP Sen. Olympia Snowe of Maine to vote for a compromise health reform plan. Multiple Democratic sources, however, have said they think that is unlikely now.

Art and Life "The Education of Sonny Carson"

One of my favorite movies of all time. Great dialogue also this movie had a great message to the young black youth.

The Education of Sonny Carson is a 1974 film based on the best-selling autobiography of Sonny Carson who joined a gang and committed petty crime before being sent to prison. After his release from prison he changes his life.

The film had many original directional styles, of the hand in prison moment from the prisoner and civilian. The dark interrogation moment, where two of the police officers come from the dark interrogating a young black male. In order to portray Sonny Carson's violent gang initiation, the film camera was placed in a metal cage. The scene was filmed from two points of view: one of Sonny running through a row of gang-members beating him with chains and clubs, the other from Sonny's own perspective as he was being humiliated and injured in order to join the gang.
The film had a $1 million budget[citation needed]. Michael Campus has stressed over this low budget and says he didn't know how he did it. The cast members were people from the neighborhood. The film explores social issues facing the African American population such as poverty, drug abuse, violence and police discrimination

R.I.P. Percy Sutton

Major Major Salute to Mr Percy Sutton

Percy Ellis Sutton (November 24, 1920 – December 26, 2009) was an American who was one of the nation's most prominent black political and business leaders. As a civil-rights activist and lawyer, he was a Freedom Rider and the legal representative for Malcolm X. He was the highest-ranking African-American elected official in New York City when he was Manhattan borough president from 1966 to 1977, the longest tenure at that position. He later became an entrepreneur whose investments included the New York Amsterdam News and the Apollo Theater in Harlem.[1]

utton was born in San Antonio, Texas, the last of fifteen children born to Samuel ("S.J.") Sutton and Lillian Sutton.
His father, born during the time [2]of slavery and an early civil-rights activist, was one of the first blacks in Bexar County, Texas, and used the initials "S.J." for fear it would be shortened to Sambo. His father was a principal of a segregated high school in San Antonio and his mother was a teacher. In addition to being a full-time educator, S.J. farmed, sold real estate and owned a mattress factory, funeral home and skating rink.[3]
All of Sutton's siblings graduated from college. His brothers included G.J. Sutton, who became the first black elected official in San Antonio,[4] and Oliver Sutton, who became a judge on the New York Supreme Court.
Young Sutton milked cows and rode around San Antonio with his father in the same Studebaker vehicle[clarification needed] that was used for funerals and distributing milk to the poor. He liked to attach strings to cans to pretend to be a radio broadcaster.
At age twelve, he stowed away on a passenger train to New York City, New York, where he slept under a sign on 155th Street in the Harlem neighborhood of the Manhattan borough of the city. Far from being angry, his family regarded it as an adventure.[citation needed]
His family was committed to civil rights, and he bristled at prejudice. At age thirteen, while passing out leaflets in an all-white neighborhood for the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP), he was beaten by a policeman.[citation needed]
Sutton had joined the Boy Scouts of America and attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1936 and was recognized with the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award as an adult. Sutton stated that scouting was a key factor in shaping his life.[5]
He took up stunt-flying on the barnstorming circuit, but gave it up after a friend crashed. Later, during World War II, he served as an intelligence officer with the Tuskegee Airmen — the popular name of a group of African American pilots who flew with distinction during World War II as the 332nd Fighter Group of the U.S. Army Air Forces. He won combat stars in the Italian and Mediterranean theaters.
Sutton attended[clarification needed] Prairie View A&M University in Prairie View, Texas; the Tuskegee Institute in Tuskegee, Alabama; and the Hampton Institute in Hampton, Virginia. He went on to attend Brooklyn Law School in Brooklyn, a borough of New York City, New York

During the 1950s and 1960s, Sutton became one of America's best-known lawyers. He represented many controversial figures, such as Malcolm X. After the murder of Malcolm X in 1965, Sutton and his brother Oliver helped to cover the expenses of his widow, Betty Shabazz.[citation needed] Sutton's civil-rights advocacy took him even further in the minds of many. Being jailed with Stokely Carmichael and other activists endeared him to the Harlem community and showed many that he was willing to place himself in harm's way for his client's sake.[clarification needed]
Sutton was a longtime leader in Harlem politics, and was a leader of the Harlem Clubhouse. The Clubhouse has dominated Democratic politics in Harlem since the 1960s. His allies in running the Clubhouse were New York City Mayor David Dinkins, U.S. Representative Charles Rangel, and New York Secretary of State Basil Paterson — whose son, David Paterson, became New York Governor in 2008.He also was a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
He served in the New York Assembly in 1965-1966.[6] He ran for borough president of Manhattan in 1965, and won with 80%[citation needed] of the vote. He served in that post until 1977, when he ran for the Democratic nomination for New York City Mayor against Bella Abzug, a former U.S. Representative; U.S. Representative Herman Badillo; incumbent New York City Mayor Abraham Beame; New York Secretary of State Mario Cuomo; and U.S. Representative Ed Koch; Koch won the nomination and mayoralty.
In 1971, Sutton cofounded the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation which purchased New York City's WLIB-AM, the city's first African-American-owned radio station.[7]
Sutton served as an Auxiliary Police officer with the NYPD in the late 1970s.[8]
He initiated[citation needed] the revitalization of the Apollo Theater in Harlem. He also produced It's Showtime at the Apollo, a syndicated, music television show first broadcast in September 12, 1987.

He and Leatrice Sutton were married in 1943; she survives him.

Beats, Ryms and Life!

Other Side of the game! "Big Meech and BMF

Like I said in my First post i do not condone drug Dealing But i respect the hustle. Just think what these guys can do if they just had a chance i mean it's takes allot of smarts to make money and control all that revenue.  Atlanta is a hot bed for entertainers and people trying to make it big time. Seeing a Huge "the World is Ours Billboard all over Atlanta "first hand" Was a sign that BMF has arrived and they was going to show the world how to hustle.
The Black Mafia Family (BMF), was a multi-million dollar drug trafficking organization originally from Detroit, Michigan, with direct links to Mexican based drug-trafficking cartels[1] and with major hubs in Atlanta and Los Angeles, that in 2000 dove into the world of hip-hop music and entertainment, successfully promoting not only Young Jeezy but also BMF Entertainment's sole artist, Bleu DaVinci. Founders Demetrius and Terry would ultimately be convicted of running aContinuing Criminal Enterprise and sentenced to 30 years to life.[2]

Founded by Demetrius "Meech" Flenory and his younger brother Terry "Southwest T" Flenory, the brothers began their rise in crime by selling $50 bags of crack cocaine on the streets of Southwest Detroit during their high school years and by 2000 had established multi-kilogramcocaine distribution cells in Alabama, Tennessee, Kentucky, Georgia, Missouri, California, Texas, North Carolina and Florida. A two-year federal investigation of the organization concluded that its membership was extensive and nationwide, with an estimated membership of over 500. Around 2001 there was a split between the brothers, with Terry Flenory moving to Los Angeles with his girlfriend to head his own organization and Demetrius staying in Atlanta; by 2003 the two would have a major falling out and hardly speak to one another. Also around this time they began to refer to their activities as being part of the "Black Mafia Family". Before this, they did not have any formal name to their organization.[2] In a conversation with his sister, caught by the DEA on a wiretap, Terry discussed how he was worried his brother's excessive partying would bring the wrong type of attention to their business.
By the time charges were filed, the government had 900 pages of typed transcripts of wiretapped conversations from Terry's phone in a 5 month period.[2]
In November 2007, the brothers plead guilty to running a continuing criminal enterprise[3].
In September 2008, both brothers were sentenced to 30 years in prison for running a large scale nationwide cocaine trafficking ring across the United States from 2000 through 2005.
With credit for three years time served, "Big Meech", now 41, will be released on December 16, 2031, or around his 61st birthday; "Southwest T", now 39, will be released on December 14, 2031.
Big Meech is serving out his sentence at Jesup FCI in Jesup, GA; his brother Southwest T is serving his sentence at Herlong FCI in Herlong, CA.[4][5]

In 2004 World Is BMF was nominated for a Source Award. BMF appeared in numerous underground hip-hop DVD magazines, most notably several issues of S.M.A.C.K. DVD Magazine and The Come Up DVD. Their most highly visible appearance was in a full length DVD, produced byThe Raw Report DVD-Magazine,which gave a detailed inside look at their movement. This DVD was featured in the cover article on BMF in the May 2006 issue of VIBE magazine. They received wide acclaim from radio and mixtapes DJ's for the song "Streets on Lock"[6], headed by BMF affiliate Bleu Davinci featuring Fabolous and Young Jeezy. A music video[7] was later produced for the hit single, however never released to networks.
Creative Loafing senior editor Mara Shalhoup wrote an award-winning three-part series about the Black Mafia Family titled Hip-Hop's Shadowy Empire. This series was the first in-depth reporting on "BMF". Her book on the group BMF: The Rise and Fall of Big Meech and the Black Mafia Family will be out March 2, 2010.
Demetrius was interviewed from prison in Issue 35 of Don Diva Magazine after his sentencing.
There are many hip hop artists who have been associated with BMF as a group and Big Meech in particular. Some of those artists include:Young Jeezy, Bleu DaVinci, Slim Thug, and many other well-known artists.
In February 2009, Demetrius was interviewed from prison by The Source magazine via telephone.

The investigation into Demetrius Flenory and "BMF" began sometime in the early 1990s before there was any name to the organization which Demetrius and Terry headed. The lead-up to the October 2005 indictments began with a series of large drug seizures and subsequent informant information from BMF members. On April 11, 2004, BMF courier and high-level distributor Jabari Hayes was pulled over in Phelps County, MO along I-40 driving a 40-foot motor home; supposedly for swerving over the fog line. After a K-9 unit alerted to drugs in the vehicle, in the back bedroom of the motor home were two suitcases containing approximately 95 kilograms of cocaine and 572 grams of marijuana. It was one of the largest drug busts in Missouri history. Three weeks earlier Jabari was pulled over in St. Louis in a 1999 Lincoln Town Car; with $600,000 in cash in the trunk.[2]
In mid-September 2004 a wiretap on a low-level crack dealer in Atlanta, Rafael "Smurf" Allison led anHIDTA task force to a mid-level dealer named Decarlo Hoskins. Hoskins subsequently turned informant and said he grew up with 2 brothers, Omari McCree and Jeffrey Leahr, that were BMF members and able to supply multi-kilogram quantities of cocaine regularly. Omari McCree was a high-level distributor for the organization and was favored by Big Meech, wiretaps revealed. On November 5, 2004, Omari's brother, Jeffrey Leahr, would be pulled over due to the wiretaps on I-75 in Atlanta with his girlfriend in a Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV. In the back seat was a duffle bag containing 10 kilograms of cocaine. They were released later the same day in an attempt to gather more information in regards to their supplier and the organization by use of the wiretaps. Omari and Jeffrey, being in a large debt now to BMF for the lost kilos, went on the run. When Omari was picked up June 8, 2005, he signed a confidential-source agreement and began to describe his role in BMF. He named "Big Meech" as the source of the cocaine but that he did not actually pick it up from Big Meech himself. According to Omari, Chad "J-Bo" Brown would supply him with the cocaine on behalf of Big Meech. These events and a number of others would form the backbone of the government's case against the two brothers.
Although Omari McCree gave investigators information, he never actually testified against anyone in open court. During trial, the government's star witness was William "Doc" Marshall.[8]
Testimony given during various trials says the organization operated as follows: Meech's side of the organization operated 4 stash houses in the Atlanta area, nicknamed "The Gate"; "The Horse Ranch"; "Space Mountain", or "Bugsy Siegel; and "The Elevator". Approximately every 10 days, vehicles would arrive packed with 100-150 kilograms packed in secret compartments. Workers at the various stash houses would be paid to unload the kilograms and place them inside the stash house. Customers who had previously put in orders for the kilograms would call in and say they have their vehicle ready (a transportation vehicle to put the narcotics in). Depending on the size of their order they would be directed to a particular stash house where they would pull in, go inside, hand over money in $5,000 bundles, and receive kilograms in a bag of some sort, open so they could verify they received the correct number of kilos. The kilograms usually went for $20,000 each.[8] The same trap vehicles would then be filled with cash (the proceeds from drug sales) to be sent back to the Mexican sources of supply[9]
Workers inside the stash houses would have certain duties; for example, two people may be in charge of counting bulk amounts of cash, usually in the millions. Other people would be pack the kilos for customers that were arriving as they were told. Another method the BMF organization received drugs was through large containers at the airport. They would pick these containers up and bring them back to the stash houses, these also would contain 100-150 kilograms at a time.[8]

HustleNomics " Carols Daughter"

In the early 1990’s, Brooklyn native Lisa Price (a.k.a. Carol’s daughter) began experimenting with fragrance, essential oils and natural moisturizers to make gifts for her family and friends. Soon after she packaged her home-spun creations, word spread like wildfire and the demand for her unparalleled hair and body care products led to a highly successful mail-order and web-based business. Within a few years, Carol's Daughter counted celebrities like Jada Pinkett Smith, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Brad Pitt and Chaka Khan as loyal fans, or as she refers to them, "friends of the family."
Nature, family and love are words that resonate for Carol’s Daughter and as business expands, Lisa makes sure that detailed care and attention is given to each product. Within every Carol's Daughter product, whether it's the Ecstasy Shea SoufflĂ© or the Almond Cookie Sea Salt Body Scrub, the uniqueness of the name is an association with the familiar manner in which the products were born.
In 1999, Carol's Daughter opened its first boutique in the cozy confines of Brooklyn’s Fort Greene neighborhood. The store's success lead to appearances of Carol’s Daughter products on top national television shows, including The Today Show, The View and The Oprah Winfrey Show. This type of mega-watt attention has encouraged the brand to make Carol's Daughter a household name – in 2005, Carol's Daughter introduced new product packaging, an updated website:www.CarolsDaughter.com, announced exciting celebrity investors and a highly anticipated Harlem flagship store in New York City.
Even after approximately 15 years of success and expansion, Carol’s Daughter products are still made with love. Each product is still made by hand... just now with a lot more hands. And just as before, the products still carry delectable, fun, and appealing names such as the marquee products: Almond Cookie Shea SoufflĂ©Tui (pronounced “twee”) Hair Oil
